Q: What brought you to Glidewell, and what is your role?
A: I was in the market for another job when I came to Glidewell. I’d been looking at the company for 20 years. I’d seen a lot of people that I’d worked with in the past make the transition to Glidewell, and every single one of them was ecstatic about the move. Most of them are still working here, and the people that have left did it for geographical reasons. The more time I spent here, the more I knew I wanted to work here. I was hired on as a Product Manager, which gave me the opportunity to get out in the market and work with customers, understand that market, and then bring new products to market to satisfy the needs of those customers. I currently manage glass ceramics and all of the lab’s resin products. I’m in charge of products from inception all the way through R&D, into production, and then launch onto the market. In my position, I’m very fortunate to get an opportunity to talk to other employees at almost every level, from people that deliver the mail all the way up to Mr. Glidewell himself. The people here at Glidewell are very easy to access and are very helpful at the drop of a dime. When I first started working at Glidewell, everyone showed up to help. They showed up at my desk. They caught me in the halls. It was literally like being adopted into a family. It was a wonderful experience.
Q: How would you describe the company culture?
A: Glidewell is very forward thinking, very family-oriented, and it’s an incredibly exciting place to work. There are all kinds of innovation going on here. We’re not just thinking about today. We’re not even thinking about a year from now. We’re really thinking quite a ways down the road. We’re looking at not only our part of the business, but also where all of dentistry is going. Glidewell also understands that there’s a family outside of work and that work, while a very important element of life, is not the only thing we’re thinking about every day.
Q: What kind of future opportunities do you see for Glidewell employees?
A: One of the things I’m very excited about is the next generation. There’s a lot of really good, young talent here. Looking at some of these younger people, I enjoy seeing that there’s a really nice progression path, there’s somewhere for them to go. Employees aren’t locked into their positions. Perhaps they took a job they’re not as interested in as they thought they would be. If someone is a valuable employee, there are lots of other positions in lots of other departments. I’ve seen several people make successful transitions. There’s a tremendous support system here, and it doesn’t just come from your manager. It comes from your peer group as well.
Q: What would you like to tell future job seekers about working at Glidewell?
A: Glidewell is a fantastic place that’s probably unlike anywhere you’re ever going to work at any time in the future. It’s a very energetic company and a very fair company that takes care of its employees. If you’re chosen to work here, you can expect to learn a lot. Your initial learning curve will be pretty close to vertical, but you can also expect a great support system, fantastic training and the opportunity to be a part of one of the best teams in dental.
