Editor’s Letter

March 25, 2017

In our effort to continually provide useful and informative resources to dentists across the country, Glidewell Dental will be relaunching Chairside® magazine. Starting next issue, this publication will expand its focus to better cover the challenges that today’s general practitioners face. The broadened subject matter will include implant, restorative and esthetic dentistry, as well as interviews with celebrated opinion leaders. I invite you to read the article “An Evolving Resource for General Dentistry” later in this issue to get a complete picture of the changes to come.

Because this will be the last issue of the classic format of Chairside magazine, we’ve made sure to gather some truly standout content. In the One-on-One interview, Dr. Chad Duplantis offers a roadmap for how dentists can streamline their workflows with digital dentistry. Overcoming his initial challenges, Dr. Duplantis invites you to learn from his experience and showcases how in-office scan, design and milling technology contributes to a fast-paced, high-quality dental practice.

Glidewell clinician Dr. Anamaria Muresan utilizes Obsidian® Pressed to Metal, demonstrating the material’s versatility and suitability as an exceptional replacement for conventional PFMs. In a separate article, we take readers behind the scenes of the Fixed department to highlight the advanced technologies used in creating substructures that result in improved accuracy of fit and more precise margins for Obsidian Pressed to Metal cases.

Dr. Justin Chi has a pair of articles exhibiting one-appointment restorative treatments. In his direct composite bonding case, Dr. Chi demonstrates how prominent diastemata in the esthetic zone can be effectively camouflaged. Later in the issue he debuts the FastMill™ in-office unit, the low-cost milling machine from Glidewell Dental that enables clinicians to deliver BruxZir® Solid Zirconia crowns without a ceramic oven and without sending the case to the laboratory.

We sincerely appreciate all of our readers — those who have been with us for all of this decadelong journey as well as those who are just picking the magazine up for the first time. It is our hope that our soon-to-be-revitalized publication will serve you and your patients well.
