I used to produce television for one of the largest entertainment companies in the world. Now I'm making it for a dental laboratory, which tends to leave people a little puzzled.

It's a fair reaction. The truth is that this dental lab was already thinking like a media company long before I arrived.

Glidewell is known for manufacturing restorations and advancing digital dentistry, but that's only part of the story. Education has been central to the mission from the beginning. Before content marketing was considered a business strategy, Jim Glidewell understood that education had the power to raise the standard of the entire industry, and that a company operating inside a stronger profession would be stronger for it.

That instinct has a name around here: constant change, a well-known credo inspired by Mr. Glidewell's biography. It means innovation isn't an event you schedule, it's a mindset. And it's the reason Glidewell has been able to evolve from a lab to a technology company, an education company, and yes, a media company.

That evolution led to Glidewell TV — the first dedicated streaming television network built entirely for the dental industry.

Why Give It Away?

more than videos

It's a good question for anyone who has run the numbers on media production. Original programming isn't cheap, and Glidewell TV doesn't paywall a single episode, doesn't charge for CE credits, and doesn't require a Glidewell purchase to watch. So why does a manufacturer fund a media operation with no direct return?

Because the return isn't direct. It's structural.

A dental lab's fortunes are tied to the health of the profession it serves. If clinicians are underprepared for digital workflows, practices struggle, and the entire industry grows more slowly. If dentists don't have accessible ways to build business acumen alongside clinical skill, good clinicians close struggling practices. Every one of those outcomes is bad for dentistry, and by extension, bad for a company whose business depends on dentistry thriving.

Jim Glidewell's bet, decades before "content marketing" was a phrase anyone used, was that raising the floor for the whole profession would lift the company along with it. A stronger, better-educated, more confident dentist is more likely to adopt new technology, grow their practice, and stay in business for the next thirty years. That's a better customer, a better referral source, and a better advocate for the profession — even in the frequent episodes where Glidewell products never come up.

In other words: Glidewell TV isn't a marketing channel wearing an education costume. It's a bet that education is the marketing — the kind that compounds over a career instead of a purchase cycle.

More Than Videos — A Destination for Dental Education

Most companies produce videos. We built a streaming platform.

The distinction matters because a video is something you come across once, usually by accident, while a platform is something you return to with intention.

Glidewell TV is a free, on-demand educational network dedicated entirely to dentistry, with 920 hours of original programming spanning free CE courses, clinical demonstrations, business strategy, leadership development, technology, and practice management, organized across 20 channels and 12 series. What started as an ambitious vision has become a reliable platform that makes learning accessible anytime, anywhere, and on any device.

More than 5,000 dental professionals watch GTV every month, averaging over 2.5 hours each — and both audience and watch time are rising. Over 500 have enrolled in CE coursework on the platform, proof that clinicians aren't just sampling the content, they're finishing it and walking away with credit toward their license. Those numbers don't happen by accident on a platform nobody has to pay for or log into to satisfy a requirement. They happen because the content earns the return visit.

Our programming is intentionally organized into recognizable series that make learning engaging and easy to navigate. Shows like Clinical 360, Office Hours, Clinical Tips, Dental Tech Now, and our extensive catalog of Free CE Courses give viewers consistent, high-quality content they can return to again and again.

Education isn't something we do between product launches. It's one of the ways we fulfill our mission.

Content That Serves the Entire Practice

Content That Serves the Entire Practice

Running a successful dental practice today takes leadership, financial literacy, operational discipline, technical fluency, and commitment to lifelong learning. Clinical excellence is what gets a dentist into practice, but it isn't what keeps the practice standing.

The programs on Glidewell TV go beyond procedural content. We cover a wide range of topics that help clinicians become better leaders, teams communicate more effectively, practices grow, and ensure the profession keeps pace with an increasingly digital future.

When dentists succeed, their patients get better care, their practices grow, and the profession advances.

Storytellers Who Believe in Education

more than videos

Behind every episode is a team of producers, videographers, editors, writers, designers, and educators with a shared goal: to take something genuinely complicated and make it approachable, easy to understand, and simple to apply in practice.

That work doesn't stop with Glidewell TV. We also support the Glidewell YouTube channel that has grown to more than 150,000 subscribers (one of dentistry's largest), create content across social media, and develop educational resources for glidewell.com and in-person courses. Each platform serves a different purpose, but together they form a single ecosystem designed to educate and inspire.

The way dentists discover and engage with educational content continues to evolve, with on-demand video playing an increasingly important role.

Clinicians now expect education that's available on their schedule, optimized across their devices, and that respects their limited time. They want it to be practical, visually engaging, and immediately applicable.

That's the standard Glidewell TV is building toward. We're investing in more original series, deeper clinical programming, richer storytelling, and better ways of connecting viewers to the content that fits where they are in their careers, all while continuing to collaborate with some of the most respected clinicians and thought leaders in the field.

As we grow our breadth of content and reach, our ambition isn't a bigger video library. It's to become the premier destination where clinicians go to learn, to earn CE credits, and keep up with the innovations shaping the future of dentistry.

And for me, the career change from broadcasting to dentistry turned out to be less puzzling than it might have looked. Great media has always been about helping people discover something valuable they didn't know before. At Glidewell, what's different is that we happen to be doing it in service of healthier smiles and to keep building a stronger profession.
