GLIDEWELL DOCTORS TAKE THE STAGE AT ICOI WINTER SYMPOSIUM

The ICOI Winter Symposium in New Orleans was a well-attended and lively meeting, with new technologies and techniques taking center stage. At the main podium, Dr. Jack Hahn delivered a memorable lecture on avoiding complications with immediate implant placement, while Dr. Neil Park, vice president of clinical affairs at Glidewell Dental, was privileged to moderate the first morning session. Those attending the February event also had the opportunity to learn from Drs. Randolph Resnik and Craig Misch, who taught a sold-out workshop investigating options for treating the edentulous arch, from overdentures to the BruxZir® Solid Zirconia Full-Arch Implant Prosthesis.

ICOI CONFERS DIPLOMATE STATUS TO GLIDEWELL DOCTORS

The International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) has awarded diplomate status to:

  • Dr. Paresh Patel, a well-known practitioner from Charlotte, North Carolina, and a frequent lecturer at the Glidewell International Technology Center in Irvine, California
  • Dr. Siamak Abai, director of clinical research & development at Glidewell Dental
  • Dr. Neil Park, vice president of clinical affairs at Glidewell Dental

To be considered for the ICOI diplomate designation, applicants must have active ICOI fellowship status or a mastership with the ICOI’s Implant Prosthetic Section (IPS). The application also calls for documentation of completed implant cases and at least 150 implant-related continuing education hours, in addition to other requirements. GLIDEWELL SCIENTISTS UNVEIL DATA AT IADR GATHERING

Four scientists from the Glidewell Dental Research & Development (R&D) team presented an array of advanced materials research during the 95th General Session & Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). The event, held March 22–25 in San Francisco, was an ideal forum for Glidewell researchers to share new insights on multiple fronts.

For associate R&D scientist Dr. Shreya Shah, presenting her research findings regarding the effects of various surface treatments on bonding strength brought a great sense of fulfillment.

“The R&D work and data, when it is presented, is something worthwhile that will be beneficial for dentists bonding restorations — and will eventually contribute to the quality of life for patients,” Dr. Shah said. This year marked the fifth time that Dr. Shah has been an IADR presenter.

Under the leadership of Akash, vice president of R&D at Glidewell Dental, the R&D department also was represented by Glidewell scientists Emily Nguyen, Lian Rother (who gave two presentations) and Ryne Contreras. Their research findings featured analyses of composite-based CAD/CAM blocks, polymerization methods and hydrofluoric acid etching. These topics offer a snapshot of the many ways in which IADR presenters can drive conversation for the industry worldwide.

Dr. Jinwhan Lee, senior manager in the R&D department, also attended the IADR meeting as part of the Glidewell delegation. In joining the lauded gathering of researchers and doctors at this year’s General Session & Exhibition, all of the Glidewell scientists were proud to contribute data that stands to shape dentistry for years to come.

DOCTORS RECEIVE ADVANCED IMPLANT TRAINING AT GLIDEWELL

Dr. Timothy Kosinski taught advanced techniques in implant surgery during a two-day course in March at the Glidewell International Technology Center. The course, which included model-based, hands-on exercises, was aimed at clinicians who had some level of experience with implant placement, but were looking for additional training to enable them to broaden the scope and indications that they could confidently treat.

Drawing from his more than 25 years of experience in implant dentistry, Dr. Kosinski illustrated specific strategies for treatment planning, extractions, socket grafting, and two-appointment implant restorations. Dr. Kosinski also introduced the topic of anterior implant placement and factors that govern esthetic success in these cases.

While attendees left with the know-how and the confidence to complete single-unit cases, they also departed with the means, thanks to the Hahn™ Tapered Implant Surgical Kit (Glidewell Direct; Irvine, Calif.) and five Hahn Tapered Implants included with each attendee’s course tuition.
