Course Objectives

This course will give dentists and staff an introduction to mindfulness in health care. Participants will learn the scientific background behind the health benefits of mindfulness practices, including structural changes in the brain, telomere rejuvenation, pain management, and epigenetics. In addition, this course will cover formal meditative practices and ways to turn daily routine activities into meditative benefits.

  • Gain a working understanding of mindfulness practices as well as the underlying science.
  • Understand techniques for autonomic control through breathing concentration and awareness.
  • Learn how to use mindfulness in the dental setting to assist in patient care.

Mark E. Abramson, DDS

Dr. Mark Abramson is a Northern California-based clinician who specializes in the treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders. He developed the FDA-approved O2 OASYS Oral/Nasal Airway System™ for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, and he is the president of Dream Systems LLC. Dr. Abramson is an adjunct professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he teaches courses on mindfulness-based stress reduction. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.
