Course Objectives

A full patient consideration (or diagnosis) that takes into account systematic medical issues, bone quantity and quality, and the position of vital structures is critical to creating a successful treatment plan and case outcome.

In this course, Dr. Charles Schlesinger provides a fast-paced overview of how to create a successful implant treatment planning that begins with patient selection and evaluation, including medical history, radiographic information and intraoral environment. Participants will also learn the technology required to isolate radiographic landmarks for treatment planning.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand and analyze patient’s medical history to avoid potential issues.
  • Identify and explain the impact of medication related to debilitating disease processes, advanced osteoporosis, pregnancy and age.
  • Determine other factors to consider pre-treatment planning, including patient motivation, periodontal environment, oral hygiene, unrealistic patient expectations and severe malocclusions.
  • Understand differences between 2D and 3D treatment planning.
  • Identify and use the radiographic landmarks for precise implant placement.
  • Assess and apply the technology to determine treatment planning.
  • Determine the appropriate treatment planning required for implant success.

Charles Schlesinger, DDS, FICOI

Dr. Charles Schlesinger is a dental implant educator and clinician who has been lecturing internationally throughout the United States, Canada, China, Saudi Arabia and the U.K. for over 15 years. He graduated with honors from The Ohio State College of Dentistry in 1996. After graduation, he completed a general practice residency at the San Diego VA Medical Center, and then went on to become the chief resident at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. During his time in Los Angeles, he completed extensive training in oral surgery, implantology and advanced restorative treatment. He is a fellow of the ICOI. Additionally, he continues to provide comprehensive implant care to patients in a private practice setting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
