On new episodes of the “Chairside Live: Dental Insights” dental podcast, host Dr. Neil Park connects with a wide range of dental industry experts. Check out the episode recaps below to see which podcast interview you want to listen to first!

Dr. Roger Levin

Staffing issues, flatlined business growth and a desire for more savings — these and other factors can be the catalysts for dentists to seek a consultant’s help. Just ask Dr. Roger Levin, the founder and CEO of the Levin Group dental consulting firm. So far, he and his consultants have worked with more than 30,000 doctors in the U.S. and abroad during the company’s 37 years in business.

The Maryland-based business advocates for a systems-based approach to success, a philosophy that has helped doctors improve their scheduling, case presentation techniques, hygiene productivity, collections, no-shows, insurance management, and more.

“The best way to train the team is to put in systems and ask them to follow them,” Dr. Levin said as a guest on the “Chairside Live: Dental Insights” podcast. “This is our method, and it works over and over.”

In this podcast episode, Dr. Levin also shares:

  • His transition from working as a third-generation dentist to advising practitioners full-time
  • Six ways to increase production
  • The importance of effective leadership in the dental practice
  • Ways to invest in staff members and nurture loyalty
  • Tips for dentists to make the leap from a dental service organization (DSO) to private practice

Dr. Bradley Eli

How far away is your nearest sleep specialist? Dr. Bradley Eli is all too aware that lack of proximity can be a significant hurdle for patients who suffer from sleep-disordered breathing and need a diagnosis from a sleep specialist. Time can also pose challenges.

“In my experience — even knowing where to send them and even knowing how the process goes — it can be anywhere from a month to three months before we get the diagnosis,” Dr. Eli said. “So why would you just stand by and let the patient have those symptoms and continue to suffer without some sort of help?”

However, general dentists can be part of the solution through provisional mandibular advancement therapy. In his interview for the “Chairside Live: Dental Insights” dental podcast, Dr. Eli outlines the step-by-step protocol, which includes a provisional diagnosis, informed consent and a provisional mandibular advancement device (PMAD) like the Silent Nite® Sleep Appliance.

During the podcast episode, Dr. Eli also talks about:

  • How he got started in treating patients who have orofacial pain, one of 12 dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association
  • The type of device that he looks for as a provider of provisional mandibular advancement therapy
  • Ways he has used telehealth in his practice, along with tips for telehealth appointments

Dr. Timothy Kosinski

Even after placing more than 15,000 implants, Dr. Timothy Kosinski still remembers the early cases. He recalls the need to sedate the majority of his patients, the three-hour procedures, the expensive lab work and the pricey components. The implant dentistry of yesteryear was, as he says, “a big ordeal.”

Fortunately, that’s not the case anymore. Dentists can enjoy the affordability of simple, predictable implant solutions like the Hahn Tapered Implant. And Dr. Kosinski credits innovations such as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and CAD/CAM technology, paired with the expertise of lab staff like the Glidewell team he relies on, for further empowering general dentists to place implants with certitude. As a result, implant dentistry today is fairly routine, Dr. Kosinski said. For example, at his practice in Bingham Farms, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, he can place more than 100 Hahn Tapered Implants in a given month.

“I think implant dentistry is not only the most financially rewarding procedures that a dentist can do — it’s also professionally and mentally stimulating,” Dr. Kosinski said on the “Chairside Live: Dental Insights” podcast. “But more important than that, [dentists’] patients are coming into their practice wanting them to do it.”

As a guest on the podcast, Dr. Kosinski also discusses:

  • His motivation for helping other general dentists gain the skills and confidence to place implants
  • How to know which implant cases to start with
  • His advice for young dentists
  • Why clinicians should pursue fellowships and mastership tracks

Stanley Bergman

In the dental industry, Henry Schein is synonymous with dental software and clinical supplies. But don’t assume this Fortune® 500 company is merely focused on delivering tools and equipment. The Henry Schein team is also attuned to providing customers with advice on operating a more efficient business, said Stanley Bergman, the company’s chairman of the board and CEO since 1989.

“When dentists come out of dental school, they’re not trained in understanding how to run a business. But that’s our job,” Bergman said during his interview with Dr. Park on the “Chairside Live: Dental Insights” podcast. “Our job is to give them the tools on how to run their business so that they can be successful. And business these days is a lot harder to run than it was five years ago.”

In this podcast episode, Bergman also speaks about:

  • Forces that affect the cost and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • The benefits of intraoral scanners and, more broadly, digital dentistry
  • The expanding use of artificial intelligence in dentistry
  • The unique needs of different types of dental practices, from small private practices to dental service organizations to private equity-owned corporations
