In trying to cure composite in the depths of the proximal box, the last thing we want to deal with is possible contamination from bleeding due to nicking the gingiva or from wedge placement. The A+Wedge™ does more than just seal the gingival margin of a sectional matrix band; it actually helps prevent bleeding in that critical area. Because the wedge is coated with aluminum sulfate (an astringent used in other dental products), it ceases to be simply a physical component that keeps composite from escaping, but rather becomes an active component that limits bleeding.
