There is a new sheriff in town when it comes to dental resins for provisional restorations. Tuff-Temp™ Plus is a rubberized urethane that provides greater strength, increased dimensional stability, and a tighter-fitting provisional restoration than acrylics and bis-acrylics. The benefits are clear, with less breakage and debonding of the restoration from the prepared tooth. I also enjoy the marginal stability that this product shows while trimming. Another big advantage is that Tuff-Temp Plus has dual-cure characteristics, and my assistant will often light cure the material for quick setting time when I use a clear vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) template. For those areas where the margins are short, Tuff-Temp is compatible with all flowable composite resins; adding on and trimming is easily accomplished.
