I have seen a lot of porcelain repair kits come and go throughout the years here in the lab, but this one is the first to contain everything you could ever need for an intraoral ceramic repair. In addition to the 9.6% hydrofluoric acid included in the kit is the Kool-Dam™ light-cured block-out resin to make sure that HF acid doesn’t end up on the tissue. Also included are the Embrace products: Embrace™ WetBond™ First-Coat™, an adhesive primer for etched or sandblasted metal, ceramic and composite; Embrace WetBond Esthetic Opaquer, which is used to block out undesirable shades; and the Embrace WetBond Seal-n-Shine™, which is placed over the final composite repair to penetrate and seal porosities and margins. All three of the Embrace products are formulated with a hydrophilic, resin acid-integrating network (R.A.I.N.) that bonds chemically and mechanically to tooth structure and restorative materials. While the number of PFMs we fabricate each year continues to shrink rapidly, it’s clear that repairing PFMs will be necessary for years to come.
