Editor’s Letter

June 18, 2018

Our profession thrives on teamwork — with your staff, the lab and dental colleagues. As technological advancements have enabled us to transfer information with greater speed and detail than ever before, the benefits of this approach have grown exponentially. In addition to increasing efficiency, this combination of technology and collaboration is constantly improving the results we can deliver for our patients.

This emphasis on partnership and digital innovation is a longstanding priority at Glidewell Dental. President and CEO Jim Glidewell, CDT, has played a central role in the evolution of restoration production from waxing and casting to CAD/CAM fabrication. This metamorphosis continues to introduce new and exciting possibilities, as you will see in the pages of this magazine.

There are few places where this shift toward digital technology is more evident than the growing popularity of in-office crown fabrication, which is now more accessible — and affordable — than ever imagined. Whether using intraoral scanners to instantly submit cases to the lab or providing patients with a single-appointment crown, we’re seeing doctors embrace this technology, and we’ve included straightforward entry points in the pages that follow.

As always, you’ll find some practical articles on implant therapy in this issue, both for seasoned practitioners and for those just getting started with implant placement.

While Chairside® magazine aims to equip doctors with tips, techniques and strategies for clinical success, there is no substitute for hands-on education. I encourage you to check out our courses at the Glidewell International Technology Center, many of which are taught by contributors to our magazine, as well as the essential implant programs found at the Misch International Implant Institute.

In the spirit of collaboration that continues to define dentistry, Chairside magazine prides itself as a forum where a wide range of dental professionals can share ideas and innovation, and we welcome your feedback as always.
