Editor's Letter: What's Next?
Dentistry has made a remarkable recovery since the pandemic-induced shutdown of March and April 2020. Through good leadership as well as judicious use of federal relief and stimulus funds, the great majority of dental practices have weathered the pandemic challenge and emerged in reasonably good shape. But some issues remain — most notably the severe shortage of dental staff, as well as supply chain issues with personal protective equipment (PPE) and some dental materials. And although costs have increased for staff salaries and supplies, it is often difficult to raise fees. Where will we find the additional revenue?
Many of our colleagues have experienced significant practice growth by adding services that patients want. Dental implants, same-day crowns, esthetic dentistry and treatment of sleep-disordered breathing can all add significant revenue to your practice. More importantly, when marketed properly, these services can brand your practice as high-tech, progressive and patient-friendly.
This issue of Chairside® magazine provides proven clinical guidance to help you incorporate these practice-growth strategies. Dr. Bradley Eli demonstrates a very simple way to incorporate sleep dentistry, for those practices that don’t wish to get involved with medical insurance. Dr. Justin Chi takes you through a complete esthetic veneer case, while Dr. Taylor Manalili shows the steps involved in a complete restorative makeover. Both articles will add to your ability to deliver the kind of esthetic improvement that patients want and need.
Drs. Randolph Resnik and Amanda Sheehan have contributed articles to help fine-tune your implant skills. But clinical skills alone are not enough to achieve success — read about the new Implant Business Essentials Continuum, where you can develop the leadership and business skills needed to develop a growing and profitable implant practice.
Finally, Dr. Roger Levin shows what it takes to build a top 10% dental team. He should know — he has helped thousands of dentists reach their goals and guide their teams to perform at new levels. And that, of course, is the key. Develop reasonable and attainable goals as a team, and make the commitment and effort required to get there. The staff of Chairside magazine is here to help by providing you with solid information.
